Winner of HBO’s Outstanding First Dramatic Feature at Outfest 2007, director/writer Jonah Markowitz’s Shelter is the story of Zach (Trevor Wright), an art school drop out struggling to balance his responsibilities with his dysfunctional family and mundane day job with his one true love; the surf.
The film hits the ground running as it tackles the thrills and spills of coming out and the life-changing ecstasy of “the first time”. Leading men Wright and absolute stand-out Brad Rowe (the older and on the rebound Shaun) share a genuine chemistry that gets pulses racing, with each exchange growing in intimacy as their affair develops.
The biggest drawcard of this tight and enjoyable drama might also be the constant presence of near-naked surfers and the breathtaking aquatic footage shot by “surf d.p.” David Warshauer!
